School's Out for Summer!

We are all so excited. John graduated last weekend from Trinity Christian School! No more early morning wake-up calls for school! The graduation was great - the weather was perfect! The day before all the seniors and their family and friends had the opportunity to take a lunch-time cruise on the Potomac to see the sights of DC. It was a fun and relaxing afternoon although the weather did not really cooperate! The kids still had fun and we even got all of them to go out on the top deck for a class picture... in the mist! But, by Saturday the skies had cleared and all was good!

Yesterday was the Upper School Awards Assembly at Trinity. Evidently back in March the Navy ROTC guys contacted the school about coming to award John his scholarship, but once we had to go through the whole medical waiver process, having the scholarship publicly awarded got lost in all the other things... until the day of graduation when we got official, hard copy, in the mail confirmation of John's Navy R.O.T.C. scholarship... then, we started moving! Bill was able to contact the folks in Richmond and Petty Officer Williams came up Friday to make the presentation. It was spectacular!! Not only did John get a framed certificate, he also received a presentation check and a Navy backpack full of all sorts of "fun" things like t-shirt, polo shirt, water bottles, pens (and yes, there were FIVE so Laura is thinking everyone in the family should get one!).. but the thing John was most interested in was the Navy lanyard! A friend of his has been promising to get him a lanyard for his keys from the Navy, but so far hasn't followed through. John grabbed that lanyard and had his keys changed out in nothing flat. He also promptly told his dad he could have the Air Force lanyard Back! Go Navy? yikes, that is going to be hard to get used to.

While we were waiting for the assembly to begin, Petty Officer Williams came over to introduce himself to me - John and Bill had already introduced themselves - and he said he had noticed the pin I was wearing. I proudly was wearing my Ann Hand Air Force Spouse pin that Bill had given me before going to Bolivia. He thought maybe I would like a different pin... and gave me a pin with both the American flag and the Navy flag. I think it will be fun to start wearing something new!

So, now to enjoy the summer... more cleaning, painting, moving kids etc etc... and traveling. Bill has another appointment in St Louis with a new doctor and I want to go out to see Grammy's new apartment! Let the summer begin!
